This course offers foreign nationals a unique opportunity to learn, absorb and harness the rich, creative and diverse textile heritage of India.
This course explores the two main practices in textile design: weaving technology and various surface treatments. It focuses on age-old, traditional textile stories from India’s many subcultures. The program aims to maximize creative and intellectual potential in the space of textile design and equip upcoming designers with a database of contacts and resources they can utilize throughout their career.
The participants will have the unique opportunity to understand the past and the present of India’s vast textile landscape, including several design best practices. The course actively encourages a studio culture alongside specialist textile workshops.
With its multi-cultural exposure and deep technical knowledge of indigenous textile making, the course will enhance an aspiring designer’s professional, aesthetic and personal design vocabulary.
This course is designed for beginners as well as for those with prior education and/or work experience.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Achieve strong knowledge on woven textiles and surface decorations applicable in a variety of contexts: fashion design, accessories, interior design, external venue design, product contexts.
